The county is situated in on the south bank of the Potomac River across from Washington DC. At one point the area that is Arlington was part of the Federal capital district, but the land was later returned to Virginia and was eventually called Arlington. Because of its proximity to the Washington, Arlington county is home to many federal government offices including the Pentagon, TSA offices, and many Department of Defense offices. The county is home to Washington National Airport and has the Metro system passes through many parts of the area, making this a very convenient place to live. In 2018, Amazon selected Arlington as the home for their HQ2 which will eventually bring a reported 50,000 additional jobs to the area.
