Olney, MD was originally a crossroads on the Rockville-to-Baltimore road, 20 miles north of DC, developed into primarily a bedroom community. Once listed in Money magazine as one of the Best Places in America to live (the highest ranked town in Maryland at the time), Olney continues to satisfy many. The Town of Brookeville (was the location for the US Capitol for a day during the War of 1812) is just north of Olney and the Olney/Brookeville areas blend together. The intersection of Georgia Ave. and Olney-Laytonsville Road has developed into a robust shopping and dining area, and it is surrounded by developments, primarily houses, but also has many townhouses and condos.
