Bordered by the Potomac River, the area known as Potomac developed from the crossroads of what is now called River Road and Falls Road. As the area transitioned from rural to suburban, farms and other land were developed in a low-density manner. Much of the housing is on 2+ acres and it is a great area to find large estate homes. In many other parts of Potomac, it’s quite common to find homes on smaller lots that will typically be at least 9,000 square feet. There are just a few townhome and condo developments scattered around the area. From around 1960 on, many large subdivisions of varying sized homes were built offering today’s buyers a nice selection of homes across many price ranges. The intersection of River Road and Falls Road continues to be a focus of much day to day activity. The area has many local parks, country clubs, golf courses as well as Great Falls National Park.
